Garnet Valley HS Library Media Center: Pro/Con Topics

Welcome to the GVHS LMC!

Research tips

First steps

  1. Choose a topic in which you are interested -- something you want to learn more about or can connect with personally
  2. Check the card catalog for books on your topic - no books? Ask the librarian about borrowing from another library
  3. Check the Issues database under ABC-CLIO, Gale Global Issues in Context, or EBSCO Opposing Viewpoints
  4. Look for current periodical articles (magazines, journals, newspapers)

Other tips

  • Find information on both sides of the issue -- the more you understand all sides of any issue, the better you will be able to form your own position
  • Put phrases in quotes when searching, such as "stem cells" or "violence in video games"
  • Try several different search terms - there are many ways to say the same thing
